Grove Location

The Olive Grove is set in the fertile California Central Valley. The Central Valley is a relatively narrow, flat valley about 22,500 square miles running north-south along the center of the state. Most of California’s fertile and productive agricultural areas are found throughout the Central Valley.

The grove is situated in the top half of this Central Valley, also known as the Northern Sacramento Valley. Although the California summers here are typically rain free, water that falls during the wet season, winter and spring, collects in ponds and underground watersheds which are available for use in the summer months. The Sacramento Valley receives over 20 inches of rain annually.

In addition to olive production, for both table and oil, the Sacramento Valley is home to groves, orchards, and open pasture. Peaches, plums, cherries, kiwi, citrus, walnuts, almonds, rice, and seasonal crops flourish in the long warm summers. Cattle, sheep, and goats graze the pastures surrounding the grove.

Oroville, a city in Butte County, is located on the banks of the Feather River and was established during the gold rush as a stop along the supply chain for the miners. Oroville dam, the tallest and largest earthen dam in the US forms Lake Oroville. This scenic lake provides water for California’s dry months and is a popular destination for fishing and water sports. A fish hatchery provides salmon a safe haven for breeding and reintroduces young fish back into California’s system of rivers for their migration to the Pacific.

The grove itself is 150 acres of established old growth Mission, Manzanillo and Ascolano variety trees planted in 1935 and are certified organic through California Certified Organic Farmers, CCOF.
